The University Library, in partnership with the Future Information and Library Executives Society (FILES), and in collaboration with the Supreme Student Council (SSC) together with the librarians in the ISU System conducted a culminating activities for the celebration of 90th National Book Week (NBW) with the theme, โ€œMagbasa. Mangarap. Magdiwangโ€ coincided with the celebration of Library and Information Services Month (LIS) with the theme, โ€œLibVOCACY: Unity Towards Inclusive and Empowered Librariesโ€ on November 28-29, 2024 at the Climate Change Center, ISU โ€“ Echague Campus.
During the first day, guests and BLIS Program faculty and students witnessed the event with an opening remarks delivered by the University Director for Library Services, Dr. Betsie M. Dela Cruz, RL, followed by the inspiring messages from Dr. Christine Charmaine G. San Jose, Dean, CCSICT and Hon. Lex Cedric Aquino, SSC President and Student Regent. A various contests like storytelling, book character and quiz bee were organized and conducted with awarding ceremony for the winners of the said contests.
On its second-day, a seminar-workshop was also conducted and started by the swift welcome remarks from the Executive Officer, Dr. Jose P. Gallena, Jr., followed by the warming message of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Boyet L. Batang, PhD. A distinguished resource speaker and Project Coordinator from the Regalo Touching Lives, Mr. Carlos L. Eclevia Jr., RL, discussed the trends and issues pertains to Artificial Intelligence and how it affects and encourage the libraries to adapt the changes in the world of technology. To know the different kinds of AI and which are applicable to libraries nowadays and to identify challenges and its opportunities, the campus librarians including from the Roxas Campus Library served as a facilitators and documenters during the workshop activity.
A product presentation and short meeting was held at the University Library discussing the upcoming PLAI-CVLRC General Assembly, procurement of e-resources and evaluation of books from Forefront and Big Faith Publishers.
